This Privacy Policy describes how Herd Chaser LLC ("Herd Chaser," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you visit herdchaser.com, join our waitlist, or use the Herd Chaser application at app.herdchaser.com and our mobile app (together, the "Services").
Information We Collect
Waitlist information. When you join our waitlist, we collect your name, email address, herd size range, and state. This form is processed by Formspree, Inc. on our behalf.
Account information. When you create a Herd Chaser account, we collect your name, email address, and password (stored in encrypted form by our authentication provider).
Ranch data. Information you enter into the app — such as cattle and calf records, breeding and calving dates, tasks, equipment and maintenance records, pasture notes, rainfall logs, and financial transactions — is stored so we can provide the Services to you.
Photos and camera. If you choose to add a photo to a record (for example, a photo of an animal), the app accesses your device camera or photo library only at the moment you take or select that photo. The image is stored so it can be shown on the associated record. We do not access your camera or photo library at any other time, and we do not access photos you have not chosen to add.
Pasture location data. If you map a pasture, we store the geographic boundary coordinates you draw or place so we can display your fields and support grazing features. We do not track your device's real-time location or your movements.
Usage and diagnostic information. Like most websites and apps, we may collect basic technical information such as browser or device type, pages or screens visited, and approximate location derived from IP address, through cookies or analytics tools. To keep the Services reliable, we also log error and diagnostic information (such as error messages and the associated account) so we can fix problems.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Services
- To let members of the same ranch share and collaborate on that ranch's records
- To notify waitlist members about beta access and product updates
- To send transactional emails such as account invitations and password resets (via SendGrid)
- To respond to your questions and support requests
- To process subscription payments once paid plans launch on Stripe
- To understand how the Services are used so we can make them better
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not sell your ranch data. We do not use your data for third-party advertising, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. Period.
Your Ranch Data Belongs to You
The records you keep in Herd Chaser — your herd, your finances, your operation — are yours. We access this data only to operate the Services, to provide support you request, or in aggregated and anonymized form to improve the product. You can export your data, and you can request deletion of your account and its data at any time by contacting us.
How Your Data Is Shared Within Your Ranch
Herd Chaser is multi-tenant, which means each ranch's data is kept separate from every other ranch. Data you enter is visible to the members of your ranch according to the role they have been given (owner, manager, or viewer), and is not visible to other ranches.
Service Providers
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run the Services, each of which processes data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments:
- Google Firebase — application database, account authentication, and photo storage
- Vercel — application hosting
- Formspree — waitlist form processing
- SendGrid (Twilio) — transactional email delivery
- Google Analytics — site usage analytics
- Stripe — subscription payment processing
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for the Services to function (such as keeping you logged in) and, if analytics are enabled, to understand site usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Data Retention & Security
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. We use industry-standard safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access controls that keep each ranch's data separate and limit access to authorized members, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take protecting your data seriously.
Children
The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your Rights & Choices
You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in those emails. You control camera, photo, and location access through your device's permission settings. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us at the address below. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable law.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Services. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the current version.
